Goals

To accomplish its mission the Society of Online Christian Theology and Philosophy has identified the following goals:

  • To promote research and scholarship in the fields of Christian theology and philosophy.

  • To foster excellence in teaching in the fields of Christian theology and philosophy.

  • To support and encourage members' professional development.

  • To develop participation in Society programs and publications.

  • To advance online publication and scholarly communication in the fields of Christian theology and philosophy.

  • To contribute to the public understanding of Christian theology and philosophy.

  • To welcome into our conversation the various voices in these fields and to support and encourage diversity within the Society.

  • To help to advance and secure the future online presence of quality academic study of Christian theology and philosophy.

Strategic Objectives

The following objectives identify those initiatives that should have strategic priority for the near term, approximately 2000-2002.

  • To craft a new online approach to the support of the academic study of Christian theology and philosophy by providing online services to theological and philosophical programs, departments, schools, faculty and students.

  • To mount an online program for contributing to the broad public understanding of Christian theology and philosophy, with emphases on addressing how we understand the role these fields play in public life and bringing our members' research and scholarly interests to bear on issues relevant to contemporary society.

  • To establish a comprehensive program of computer-based electronic communication tools and resources that will enhance scholarship and teaching in the fields of Christian theology and philosophy.

  • To provide the resources and infrastructure to support SOCTP projects, including these strategic initiatives, while assessing current commitments and maintaining the quality of ongoing programs.
